AARON OLSEN

​Aaron is a scientist, designer, and entrepreneur based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. He earned bachelor degrees in Biochemistry and Foreign languages from the University of Kansas in 2009 and a masters degree and PhD in Integrative Biology from the University of Chicago in 2016. From 2016 to 2021, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology at Brown University. Aaron’s research has focused on the evolution and biomechanics of various animals including bird beaks, fish skulls, and fish fins. He has authored or co-authored more than 15 peer-reviewed publications, he has received graduate and postdoctoral NSF fellowships, and he was awarded a best dissertation award for his PhD research. He is currently the founder of 3D Anatomy Studios.

Founded in 2021, 3D Anatomy Studios is a cooperative of designers and PhD scientists delivering innovative products and services at the intersection of anatomy and design. Their current efforts focus on modernizing college-level anatomy education by creating resources that actively engage students in inquiry, discovery, and high-level learning. They also provide expert services in digital model creation, physical model fabrication, scientific visualization, and science outreach website development.
